Alcohol Nicotine and Other Drugs Services

Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre provides alcohol, nicotine and other drug programs which offer non-judgemental support for those struggling with substance dependence. These programs focus on both the individual struggling with addiction issues and/or those supporting/affected by a loved one’s addiction. We offer a holistic perspective on drug use from a harm minimisation perspective, offering trauma informed one-on-one counselling, as well as groups and appropriate referrals.

The counselling sessions will offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to discuss, reflect and consider where your substance use stems from, how it is impacting you and what can be done to help lessen its impact on your life. There is a focus on empowerment, from a decolonisation, trauma informed perspective. The counsellor draws on therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy to support your own growth. This will involve looking at your own goals, and reflecting on the life that you want to lead, whether that be abstinent from drugs and alcohol or focussing on a healthier relationship with substances.

These sessions can be held face to face at the centre, online or over the phone.
